SWABI, Sept 8: Jamaat-i-Islami chief Qazi Hussain Ahmad has said that Leader of Opposition in the National Assembly Maulana Fazlur Rehman will not enter into any agreement with the dictatorial regime of President Gen Pervez Musharraf in a bid for premiership.Talking to journalists here on Saturday, he brushed aside speculation that Maulana Fazl had been holding negotiations with the government for the coveted office of prime minister in case Gen Musharraf got re-elected as president for a second term from the current assemblies. He said the Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal (MMA) was united and would contest the general elections from one platform. He said that after former prime minister Nawaz Sharif’s arrival in Islamabad on Sept 10, leaders of the All Parties Democratic Movement (APDM) would hold a meeting to discuss the future course of action.

He said the APDM leaders might tender resignations

from assemblies to scuttle the re-election of President Musharraf.

He criticised the crackdown on Pakistan Muslim League (N) workers and leaders and said the political activists had a right to welcome their leader after the apex court’s decision in favour of Mr Sharif.

He said the nation should support the parties struggling for the restoration of democracy in the country.

He called upon leaders of all political parties to join hands and work collectively.
