Qazi asks Benazir to join APDM

LAHORE, Sept 2: Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal President Qazi Husain Ahmad has invited PPP chairperson Benazir Bhutto to join the All Parties Democratic Movement to make her contribution to the struggle for democracy.

“The doors to the APDM are open to Benazir Bhutto who now feels bad about the stalled talks with the military rulers”, the Qazi said at a ceremony where the book of a Jamaat-i-Islami leader, Aslam Siddiqui, was launched on Sunday.

The MMA president said the opposition stood united on a platform and was through a struggle to ensure the establishment of genuine democracy, revival of functional state institutions and rule of law.

In these circumstances, he said, it did not matter for the opposition if the regime entered into a deal or the deal failed.

He also welcomed lawyers for continuing the movement against those involved in any deal which might infringe upon the national interest and go against the will of the people. “We will wholeheartedly support such a movement”.

He said all political developments were going against the rulers and that was the reason they were issuing such statements to manifest their frustration.

The suggestions about the imposition of martial law or emergency and dissolution of assemblies all pointed to one thing that the regime was in a great panic.

The MMA president also held out an assurance to the superior judiciary for support for its bold decisions which, he said, were fully in consonance with the constitutional dictates.
