HYDERABAD, Aug 30: The Hyderabad circuit bench of the Sindh High Court on Thursday issued notices to the DPO of Badin, SHO of Pangrio police station and seven relatives of a girl who was reportedly declared kari and her husband karo by a jirga.

Ms. Razia who is represented by Mohammad Sachal R. Awan advocate said in the constitutional petition that she had married Imtiaz Hussain Jarwar of her own free will before the civil judge and judicial magistrate on Aug 17 and her nikah was performed the same day.

She said that her parents forced to marry her to an aged person whom she disliked and her brothers, Qadir Bux, Ali Akbar and Azizullah used to torture her mercilessly, compelling her to flee her parents’ home in Dost Mohammad Jarwar village in Tando Bago.

She said that when the respondents, her parents and brothers, came to know about her marriage they held a jirga in the locality, which decided that she and her husband were karo-kari hence should be killed.

Ms Razia said that she had not done anything wrong or repugnant to the teaching of Islam. The SHO of Pangrio police station had tried to trespass into her house without any FIR or arrest warrant and violated the sanctity of her home, she said.

She prayed the court to declare holding of jirga as unlawful and direct the DPO of Badin to restrain respondent SHO from harassing her and her husband. The SHO should be directed to provide protection to the life, honour and prestige of the petitioner, she said.
