SWABI, Aug 14: District Nazim Shahram Khan on Tuesday said the district judicial lock-up would be provided with a 50KV electricity generator to ensure an uninterrupted power supply to the building.

During a visit to the overcrowded lock-up to celebrate the Independence Day with prisoners, he said efforts would be made to provide better accommodation to prisoners.

“We want to ensure uninterrupted supply of electricity to prisoners because we want them to become good citizens of the country,” the nazim said.

He conceded that there were not enough rooms to accommodate the huge number of prisoners. He said the government planned to construct a new judicial lock-up in the Shah Mansoor town.

He announced that the district government would provide two television sets for prisoners so that they could enjoy television programmes, especially those which might help them become good citizens.

The nazim also announced free medical treatment of prisoners and said the district government would bear the expenditure on drugs.
