KARACHI, July 20: Over 300 acres of land originally reserved for cottage industry in Orangi Town was retrieved through a demolition operation by the city government on Friday. The land had been under the illegal occupation of ‘land mafia’ for 11 years.

Allottees of the occupied plots had been running from pillar to post since 1996 for action against the illegal occupant of their properties but in vain.

Nazim of Orangi Town after processing the complaints, referred the case to the city nazim who ordered demolition of all illegal structures on the land. A strong contingent of anti-encroachment staff with police support launched the operation on Friday morning and demolished almost all illegal structures.

According to the city government, the remaining structures and encroachments would be removed in the next couple of days.—APP
