LARKANA: Growers block highway

LARKANA, July 20: Annoyed by the persisting irrigation water shortage in Ghariwah, Aabriwah, Kandiwah, Seraiwah and other tributaries a large number of people belonging to Shahbaig Jamali, Fazul Malgani, Mithodero, Talbani Jat and Naich blocked the Indus Highway.

Similar protests were also held in Larkana city and people blocked the Indus Highway near Jhukar-jo-daro and demonstrated in Qambar town.

Chanting slogans against irrigation officials for their indifferent attitude, they burnt tyres and suspended vehicular traffic.

Carrying dried paddy clusters from ‘Mian Shahul Mohammadand its surroundings villages in the lead of Mohammad Khan Mughiri and Serai Mohammad Khan Khuhawar, they staged a sit-in at Lahori Regulator passing from the centre of Larkana.

They blocked the road with tractor trolleys and accused the Rice Canal Engineer Munwar Bozdar of artificial shortage.

A large number of villagers from Mina, Hulia, Raees Allahdino Chandio villages and others of Qambar-Shahdadkot district on Friday also took out a procession in Qambar against water shortage.

Munawwar Chandio led the protesters who staged a sit-in at Martyr's Square and burnt tyres.
