HYDERABAD, June 11: The Quality Enhancement Cell (QEC) of the University of Sindh has compiled its first consolidated report on courses covered in faculties during the first semester of 2007 as well as survey of students evolution and presented the same in a meeting of the deans of the university held here on Monday.

The meeting was presided over by the Vice Chancellor of the University, Mr Mazharul Haq Siddiqui, while deans of all the faculties, Registrar and Controller of Examinations attended the meeting.

Adviser QEC of the University, Prof Dr Mohammad Suleman Shaikh explained the efforts while compiling the report. He informed the meeting that data for compilation of the report was provided by the departments.

He said that all data of courses conducted by the teachers and courses covered by them is included in the report. He said that this report would help the University to improve quality of education and collection of data for the second semester.

The QEC adviser also informed the meeting that 174 faculty members expressed satisfaction over the report.

The meeting appreciated efforts of the QEC for collection and compilation of the data. The meeting also appreciated progress of the Faculty of Pharmacy among all the faculties.

The deans' meeting expressed concern over delay in submission of results of the special examination.

Speaking on the occasion, the VC said that the University has taken steps for improvement of quality of education.

In the light of discussions with deans as well as report submitted by the controller of examinations, the VC convened a meeting of all heads of the institutes and departments to find out the causes of delay in submission of results of first semester examination 2007.

WORKSHOP: A six-day workshop on Contemporary Research Methods for university teachers began here on Monday under the aegis of Faculty of Education, University of Sindh at Elsa Kazi campus, Hyderabad in collaboration with the Learning Innovation Division of Higher Education Commission (HEC), Islamabad.

The workshop was inaugurated by Professor Dr Iqbal Ahmed Panhwar, Dean Faculty of Education of the university.

Professor Panhwar, in his inaugural speech said that it is most important that the teachers from the universities and colleges must have the know how about process of research.

He said that due to lack of knowledge many researchers during their research work are not meeting the targets. He said that for guidance of the researchers, the Sindh University has also introduced course work at MPhil and PhD level.

He said that objectives of the workshop are mainly to introduce key themes of research as a prerequisite in conceptualisation, synopsis development and thesis writings for MPhil and PhD for university and college teachers.
