THATTA, April 19: Protesters blocked the National Highway here on Thursday to protest against kidnapping of a woman and police raids at a village.

Led by Pakistan Fisher-folk Forum chairman Syed Mohammad Ali Shah, the protesters also took out a procession in the city and staged a sit-in outside the Thatta Press Club.

The woman, Khattu Mallah, was kidnapped from Jati and later the Golarchi police raided Soomar Rachho village and arrested some villagers.

The protesters, including a large number of women, raised slogans for early recover of Ms Khattu.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr Shah alleged that Ms Khattu had been kidnapped by some influential people in the presence of some policemen.

He said that later, the Golarchi police raided the village and arrested a number of villagers. Then the police registered a case against 50 persons, including women, he added.

He condemned the police action and demanded registration of a case against the police officials.
