HYDERABAD, April 11: The BISE Hyderabad’s decision to bring an end to the practice of hiring external examiners in Class IX-X annual examinations has irked the Government Secondary Teachers Association.

The Association termed the move illegal during a meeting held on Wednesday under the chairmanship of Zamir Khan. This it said will encourage cheating.

They were of the opinion that the secondary teachers of Hyderabad were being meted out step-motherly treatment.

About deficit the BISE was facing, the association said “appointment of high-salaried officers on contract basis and not the external examiners was responsible for it.”

It appealed to the Sindh governor to intervene in the matter and help in reversing the board’s decision in this regard.

SAU: The Vice Chancellor, Sindh Agriculture University Tandojam, Prof Dr Basheer Ahmed Shaikh has stressed upon improving the standards of educational institutions in this age of competition.

The failure to come up to international standards will retard the growth of other organisations, as well, he said.

He expressed these views while delivering the presidential speech at the Quality Enhancement Cell's introductory function at the Tandojam campus on Wednesday.

Teaching methodology and research needs radical changes to produce graduates of international repute, along with upgradation of laboratories, he said adding, usage of latest technology was necessary to improve the quality of education being imparted in the country.

Any laxity on the part of the concerned will damage the prestige of our institutions he warned and called upon the teachers, scholars, experts, deans of faculties and heads of various departments to follow policies of the HEC and other such organisations for quality education.

Dr Allah Bukhsh Memon laid stress on changing the syllabus and teaching methods for bringing about quality enhancement in this field.

He called upon the graduates to become role models which in the long run will increase their value in the market.

Dr Qazi Suleman Memon said since the establishment of quality enhancement cell, both teachers and students will need to work hard not only to improve the quality of education but also to maintain the prestige of their institutions.

Dr Ghulam Hussain and Saeed Anwar Soomro also spoke on the occasion.
