HYDERABAD, March 2: Corneal graft of second eyes of a girl and a man was performed at the Red Crescent Hospital, Latifabad, on Friday with the collaboration of the district government and the Al-Umeed Lions Club, Hyderabad.

President, Al-Umeed Lions Club, Hyderabad, Shakir Memon, said that eye surgeon Dr Dabeer Alam from Karachi operated upon Anees, 22, and Sadia 18, residents Latifabad-12 free of cost.

He said that their first corneal graft had been performed on January 27 at the hospital and the second corneal graft would restore their sight completely.

Shakir Memon said that his organization had arranged at least 33 corneal graft of poor people in addition to eye operations of more than 10,000 free of cost.

He appealed to the district government, philanthropists and medical professionals of Hyderabad to put their resources together to establish an eye bank and corneal graft centre in the city.

Mr Memon advised the eye specialists of Hyderabad and interior Sindh to send poor eye patients to his organisation so that they could be provided treatment free of cost.
