PESHAWAR, Oct 30: Sahibzada Haroonur Rashid, MNA from Bajaur Agency, resigned from the National Assembly on Monday to protest against the bombing of a ‘madressah’ in his constituency, claiming 82 lives.

He said that he had sent his resignation to the Jamaat-i-Islami chief with the request to send it to the National Assembly speaker.

“We cannot remain silent over the barbaric bombing of religious institutions,” he told Dawn by phone from Khaar, the headquarters of Bajaur Agency.

“The ‘US’ has attacked a seminary and killed 82 innocent people... Keeping in view the situation, I have decided to resign from the National Assembly,” the MNA said in his resignation letter.

He said that time had come to wage ‘practical’ struggle against the US atrocities.

Mr Rashid said that situation was very tense in Bajaur Agency and people had protested against the bombing. He said that a strike would be observed in the tribal region on Tuesday.
