BAHAWALPUR: A police constable along with his four accomplices has been booked for allegedly torturing a woman to death at Mauza Muhammad Naich in the limits of Bahawalpur Channigoth police on Sunday.

According to complainant Abid Hussain, he had accompanied his sister-in-law Nabila Bibi to visit constable Waseem to complain about the alleged torture of his son Zain (15) during a volleyball tournament.

He claimed that Waseem, his cousin Shafique along with two other accomplices tortured Nabila Bibi and she died at the scene.

The Channigoth police registered a murder case and sent the victim’s body for postmortem. The suspects had fled away from the scene.

Meanwhile, Lodhran DPO Beenish Fatima has dismissed Lodhran police front desk head Bilal Parvez from service for alleged misconduct and irregularities.

According to a DPO’s spokesperson, Bilal’s irregularities were detected after official records were scrutinised and departmental action was initiated against him. He said that after the completion of the official process, he was dismissed from service.

BCCI POLLS: The Bahawalpur Saddar police have booked fifteen unidentified suspects for storming and ransacking the Bahawalpur Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BCCI) building and tampering with the sealed ballot boxes.

BCCI Secretary Abeer Haider in his complaint to the police claimed that the suspects in large numbers stormed the BCCI building by jumping over the boundary wall, kept security guard Khuda Baksh in illegal confinement at gunpoint, broke the door, windowpanes, and sealed ballot boxes and tampered with the ballot papers.

Police said that so far no arrest had been made in the case.

It may be recalled that after the BCCI’s election process, the sealed ballot boxes were being kept for a recount scheduled for Oct 21 on the orders of the Director General Trade Organisation (DGTO). There were tensions among the rival groups over counting and on a complaint of one group, the recounting had been ordered.
