SAHIWAL: A police constable was booked for allegedly raping a transperson near Ferozepur Chishtian in Pakpattan tehsil.

After the transpersons of the area held a protest, the Kalyana police registered a case against their own constable for assaulting a transperson. However, the police failed to arrest the accused constable.

As per reports, a mela was organised near the Bajri Wali Factory Ground in Ferozepur Chishtian where transpersons had also arranged a dance programme. It claimed that a few cops from the Kalyana Police Station were also present there.

According to eyewitnesses, police constable A tried multiple times to grab a transperson and force her to sit with him. Reports claimed that when the event ended and the transpersons were ready to go back to Pakpattan city, the armed constable allegedly kidnapped the transperson and took her into a nearby field. It further claimed that he forcefully assaulted her and after hearing her hue and cry, fellow transpersons rushed to the scene. The constable ran away from the scene.

Later, the transpersons went to the Kalyana police station, however, the police were allegedly reluctant to register the case. However, after their protest, the police registered a rape case against the constable.

Pakpattan DPO Javed Chadhar, while talking to Dawn, said the accused cop would be arrested at the earliest.

PENALISED: Three officials of the Okara circle of the Auqaf Department have been penalised for incompetence, corruption, misconduct, and misuse of authority under the Peeda Act, 2006.

The penalties were imposed by Dr Ihsan Bhutta, chief administrator of the Provincial Auqaf Department, Lahore, in the third week of May 2026 following the conclusion of an inquiry conducted by the additional secretary.

The inquiry, which began on Feb 26 and ended on April 23, found three officials guilty with serious financial irregularities and embezzlement. Those indicted included former manager Shafqat Abbas, former senior clerk Amir Sattar, and former rent clerk Zawar Ahmed of the Okara circle.

The inquiry established that Amir Sattar, in collusion with Shafqat Abbas, failed to deposit Rs6.41 million received in advance from Patadaran (leaseholders) into the national exchequer during the years 2024, 2025-26.

The amount was collected for plots linked to the shrine of Daoud Bandagi at Shergarh, Okara district. The inquiry found that they had produced fake online documents and forged entries to show the amount had been deposited both to the Auqaf department and land leaseholders.

Investigators also uncovered five instances of fraudulent entries against Patadaran, where cash was received but not deposited. In two cases, leaseholders Muhammad Abbas and Syed Izhar Hussain were issued fake challan receipts of Rs391,685 and Rs94,169, respectively, without bank stamps or signatures, but bearing Shafqat Abbas’s name stamp.

Similarly, Zawar Ahmed was found guilty of multiple charges, including accepting money from leaseholders and shrine caretakers without depositing it into official accounts, illegally occupying land, constructing shops on shrine property, and issuing fake receipts for funds collected from mosques under the Auqaf department.

In light of these findings, major penalties were imposed. Shafqat Abbas’s service had been forfeited for three years with 20 percent recovery of Rs1,204,780 of the embezzled amount; Amir Sattar had been demoted from senior clerk to junior clerk with 60 percent recovery of Rs3,614,341; while Zawar Ahmed had been awarded minor penalties, including 20 percent recovery of Rs1,204,780 alongwith withholding of five annual increments.
