BAJAUR: Representatives of traders’ associations have alleged irregularities in beautification projects and demanded an investigation.
Talking to reporters here, Inayat Kallay Traders’ Association president Imran Mahir and others alleged irregularities in the recently completed beautification projects in Bajaur bazaars.
They said Inayat Kallay, Nawagai, Barkholozo, Raghan and Memola were the trade centres where beautification projects worth millions of rupees were executed during the now defunct provincial government.
“The provincial government spent huge money on the beautification schemes to improve infrastructure and ensure basic facilities, but the work was not commensurate with the funds,” they alleged.
They said the standard and quality of material used in these schemes were poor and substandard, and that huge irregularities and embezzlement were committed in these projects.
They said they had raised concerns over the quality of work and had brought the matter to the notice of PTI lawmakers and government officials supervising the projects, but to no avail.
They demanded a complete audit of the amount spent on these projects and an impartial investigation against local government officials, local MPAs and relevant contractors, along with examination of the work executed under the schemes.
They demanded that the deputy commissioner take notice of the issue to ensure strict action against those involved in corruption in public welfare schemes.
