BAJAUR: Three brothers were killed after unidentified assailants opened fire on them in Khar Bazaar on Saturday night, police and residents said on Sunday.

They told Dawn that gunmen targeted the three brothers in the old portion of Khar Bazaar.

They said that the brothers were closing their juice shop when they were targeted, leaving them critically injured.

DSP Saidur Rehman said that the injured were rushed to the District Headquarters Hospital, Khar, where two of them, Hanifullah, 35, and Ibrahim Khan, 27, died during treatment.

He said their third brother, Abbas Khan, 25, died while being shifted to a hospital in Peshawar.

Another police official, quoting residents, said that the attackers first targeted Hanifullah and Ibrahim Khan, while Abbas Khan was targeted after he reportedly attempted to chase them.

Meanwhile, Awami National Party MPA Mohammad Nisar Baz Khan and Khar Traders’ Association president Wajid Ali Shah expressed sympathies with the bereaved family.

A police official said an investigation was underway to ascertain the motive behind the shooting and identify those responsible.

The deceased were laid to rest in Khar town’s graveyard.
