PESHAWAR: The Lady Reading Hospital, the province’s largest health facility, has been declared senior citizen-friendly with the inauguration of a dedicated facilitation desk to improve access to services and advance implementation of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Senior Citizens Act, 2014.

The step has been taken in collaboration with the Blue Veins and the National Commission for Human Rights (NCHR).

LRH’s director Mohammad Tariq Burki, who inaugurated the facility here the other day, said that they received 4,500 patients on average every day, and some were sent back after getting treatment at the accident and emergency department, while others were admitted to more than 26 specialised wards, according to a press release issued here.

“The facilitation desk will help senior citizens navigate hospital services and receive the assistance they need. We will continue improving our facilities to make LRH more responsive to their needs,” Mr Burki said.

NCHR provincial coordinator Rizwanullah Khan welcomed the initiative, saying access to healthcare without discrimination was a fundamental human rights concern.

He reaffirmed the commission’s commitment to protecting the rights of older people and addressing barriers to essential services.
