FIRE SAFETY FACILITIES

FIRE SAFETY FACILITIES: It is disappointing to see that even major public-sector hospitals in urban centres do not have fire safety equipment, and depend completely on fire brigades in case of an emergency. Money is budgeted and invested in various projects, but no attention is paid to contingency planning. Spending a few millions to install fire extinguishers, hydrants, sprinklers, smoke detectors and hooters can make a significant difference. Mock fire drills should be carried out regularly. Hospitals are to be taken more seriously because the patients are not in a position to move freely, which increases the risk for even their attendants. All provincial governments should inspect fire safety arrangements in hospitals, apartments and shopping malls.

UNSAFE BRIDGE: Recently, I came across a video uncovering the poor condition of the bridge near Jumma Bazar Hub. The bridge was repaired in 2022, but no proper repair or maintenance has been carried out since then. A sewage drain passes underneath the bridge. Garbage, plastic bags, paper and other waste accumulate there, hampering sewage-flow. The dirty water and waste attract mosquitoes and other insects, creating serious health hazards for the residents. The condition of the bridge and the open drain is dangerous. There is always the threat of someone falling into the drain. Due repairs should be initiated forthwith.

PROMOTIONAL SCHEMES: For one reason or another, denying promotion opportunities to dedicated employees violates constitutional equality and massively affects public service efficiency. Career progression is essential for employee dignity, organisational progress and sustained workplace morale. Both federal and provincial public-sector organisations must implement structured promotional schemes to prevent stagnation and financial loss to their employees who are continuously being denied promotion in different organisations.
