ISLAMABAD: The Privatisation Commission board has approved the prequalification of nine parties interested in acquiring Gujranwala Electric Power Company (Gepco).

The board meeting, held on Monday and chaired by Adviser to the Prime Minister on Privatisation Muhammad Ali, was informed that it had received 11 expressions of interest (EoIs) for acquiring 51 per cent to 100pc shareholding, along with management control.

After evaluating the submissions against the approved prequalification criteria, the financial adviser recommended nine interested parties for prequalification and progression to the next stage of the transaction.

The prequalified parties include three Turkish energy companies, alongside leading Pakistani business groups and investment consortia, reflecting continued domestic and international investor interest in Pakistan’s electricity distribution sector.

The nine prequalified parties will now proceed to the next stage of the transaction under the approved process, including access to the Virtual Data Room (VDR) for detailed buy-side due diligence, a press release said.
