Action initiated against teachers for poor 9th grade results in Rawalpindi

RAWALPINDI: The District Education Authority Rawalpindi has initiated action against 160 headmasters and 404 teachers over poor performance in the 9th grade annual examination.

The authority issued show-cause notices to the teachers and principals of 160 schools where pass percentage in the 9th class exam was less than 20pc.

As many as 63pc students failed in the Rawalpindi Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education 9th grade annual exam.

According to the results, a total of 124,430 candidates submitted their admissions, out of which 121,739 candidates appeared in the exam. A total of 45,724 candidates were declared successful, resulting in an overall success rate of 37.56pc while 76,015 candidates failed.

District Education Authority Chief Executive Officer Yaseen Khan Baloch told Dawn that personal hearing of headmasters and teachers and the final decision about departmental action will be made by Oct 20. “Termination from service will be the final decision,” he said.

He said that the district administration had asked to complete the syllabus of 9th and 10th grade in the government schools without any break and in this regard six days a week classes will continue till the winter vacations.

He said that teachers had been instructed to impart quality education to senior classes so the students will perform better in annual examination of 2027. He said that capacity building of teachers and students will be enhanced through different mediums so the government schools will get better positions in annual exams.

Apart from this, Mr Baloch said the education authority selected 100 teachers from government schools who performed better during the 5th and 8th grade annual exams. To appreciate them, a special event will be held on Monday.

He said that the teachers worked hard to impart education to 5th and 8th grade students in the annual exams and due to this many students got more than 80pc marks.

He said that these teachers would be given appreciation letters and gifts from the education authority. He said that the students will also get appreciation letters from the authority.

The CEO said that the event will be held at Bagh Sardaran Government School No I and Parliamentarians Tahira Aurangzeb, Daniyal Chaudhry, Ziaullah Shah and the federal minister for railways will attend the function.
