MANSEHRA: Employees of Dasu hydropower project, who have been on strike for the last eight days, met the project’s general manager on Monday and demanded that their jobs be regularised.

Around 200 employees, led by Mohammad Saddam, met Dasu hydropower project’s general manager Zahid Hussain and apprised him of their problems.

They argued that the contractual employees of Diamer-Bhasha and Neelum-Jhelum hydropower projects had already been regularised.

However, the GM said employees working at the Dasu project on a contract or temporary basis could not be adjusted in Wapda. “Wapda has its own appointment criteria, credentials, age limits and other prerequisites. You should call off your strike and continue to work as usual, as your services are not being terminated,” he said.

The striking employees raised slogans in support of their demands. “We wouldn’t resume our responsibilities until our demands are met and we are adjusted in Wapda,” Mohammad Shabbir, an employee, said.

He said employees who worked at Diamer-Bhasha and Neelum-Jhelum projects had been confirmed by Wapda as its employees.
