RAWALPINDI/ISLAMABAD: All is set to celebrate Eid Miladun Nabi (peace be upon him) in the twin cities of Rawalpindi and Islamabad with religious fervour on Wednesday (today).
In Rawalpindi, the Markazi Milad Committee has finalised programmes in collaboration with the district administration and police.
The main procession will be taken out from Markazi Jamia Masjid led by Pir Naqeebur Rehman at 10am, and it would culminate at the same venue while passing through Jamia Masjid Road, Banni Chowk, Circular Road, Murree Road, Iqbal Road, Raja Bazaar and Dingi Kohi. The routes of processions and buildings on main roads have been decorated with buntings and banners.
The district administration deployed all its sanitary staff on the traditional route of the procession and cleaned the roads as well as sprayed lime along it.
The administration and police officials also visited different areas to inspect cleanliness of the traditional route of the Milad procession. An official said the procession route would be thoroughly cleaned and manned by the police and personnel of different security agencies.
He said that no person would be allowed to stand on rooftops of the buildings falling in the routes. The Rawalpindi Municipal Corporation had been directed to remove posters of films and dramas set up along the procession route in view of the sanctity of the day. He said that the district administration had established three emergency centres at Committee Chowk, Raja Bazaar and Shah Nazar Pul.
He said that water tankers of Wasa and ambulances of Health Department equipped with necessary medicines, doctors and paramedics would accompany the processions. He said that the administration imposed a ban on drum beating and music playing and appealed to the organisers to implement the instructions concerning the event in letter and spirit.
Islamabad
The capital police finalised a plan to ensure foolproof security for mosques and religious gatherings.
Under the security plan, more than 3,000 police officers and officials will perform security duties, while dedicated police teams will conduct patrols in their respective areas. The respective zonal SPs will personally monitor all security arrangements.
Moreover, Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) and Delta Force Commandos, Counter-Terrorism Department, Capital Patrol Unit, female commandos, armed and uniformed police officials, as well as plainclothes officers, will perform security duties. Special duties have also been assigned to Islamabad Traffic Police officers to ensure smooth traffic flow.
People participating in the events related to Eid Milad will be checked through walk-through gates and metal detectors.
The main Eid Milad procession will commence from Jamia Masjid Al-Raza, G-7 Centre, and proceed along designated routes before concluding at Darbar Sakhi Mehmood Badshah in Aabpara. Police officials will be deployed on both sides of the streets along the procession route. Additional security will be provided at mosques and other places of worship located along the route.
Vehicle parking will be arranged away from the procession routes. Separate security plans have also been prepared for rallies and gatherings. Strict checking is being carried out at all entry and exit points of the city.
All items and areas along the procession routes will be checked, while the Bomb Disposal Squad will conduct sweeps of designated areas to ensure maximum security.
The capital police said it will utilise all available resources to ensure the safety and security of citizens and maintain law and order in the city. The police appealed to citizens to remain vigilant and immediately report any suspicious person or object to Islamabad Police Helpline “Pucar-15” or the concerned police station.
Traffic plan
The City Traffic Police Rawalpindi prepared a traffic diversion plan for Eid Miladun Nabi with more than 910 traffic police personnel deployed to maintain traffic.
A total of 120 processions will be taken out of which two have been categorised as A, 10 placed in category B while 108 categorised as C.
Murree Road will be completely closed on both sides during the processions. Traffic going from Rawalpindi to Islamabad will be diverted to Tipu Road towards Liaquat Bagh Chowk. Traffic coming from Islamabad to Rawalpindi will be diverted from Rawal Road turn to Rawal Road. Traffic going from Liaquat Bagh to Fawara Chowk will be diverted from DAV College to Gawalmandi. For the second procession, which will be taken out from Chungi No 22, traffic coming from Kalma Chowk will be diverted to Harley Street.
The procession will pass through Tench Road, Dhoke Syedan Chowk, Kalma Chowk, No 22 Chowk, Adara Road, State Life Building turn, MH Chowk, Mahfuz Chowk, Mansehra Adda, Thana Cantt, Nishtar Street, Adamji Road, Mithu Khan Complex, Railway Road, Military Account, Kamran Market and will end at GTS Chowk.
Traffic going to Khattak Chowk, CMH and Tench will be diverted to Harley Street during the procession.
When the procession reaches Mall Road, traffic coming from Peshawar Road will be diverted from Qasim Market to Sher Khan Road, said the traffic police. Traffic going from Kutchery Chowk to Peshawar Road will be diverted from TM Chowk to Murree Road. Tractor trolleys, trailers, trucks, etc. will not be allowed to enter the procession.
No parking will be allowed within 300 yards of the stage, a special plan has been prepared for ambulances, fire brigades and other emergency vehicles. Traffic will be diverted from the highways where processions will be held. Citizens are requested to avoid unnecessary travel to places where processions pass, CTO Farhan Aslam said.
Meanwhile, Chief Traffic Officer Murree Munir Ahmed Hashmi has issued a special traffic plan. A police spokesman said that the main procession will go from GPO Chowk Murree to Ghausia Masjid via Mall Road. Special duties of traffic wardens and officers have been posted at the entry and exit routes of processions coming from different parts of the city, while double shifts have also been deployed to maintain traffic flow.
