ISLAMABAD, July 20: A woman on Thursday moved the Supreme Court seeking recovery of her husband who has gone missing since July 30, 2005.

In a five-page application, Amina Masood, the wife of Masood Janjua stated that the apex court should direct the director general Inter Services Intelligence (ISI) and heads of MI (Military Intelligence) and FIU (Federal Investigation Unit) to submit a report regarding whereabouts of her husband.

Advocate Hashmat Habib filed the application on her behalf.

She also requested the court that the Supreme Court should directly order the intelligence agencies instead of the federal government especially when the federal government had already told the Sindh High Court that it had no operational control over both ISI and MI and therefore could not enforce court’s directions.

Application was filed before the Supreme Court after the Inspector General Punjab failed to trace the whereabouts of her husband Masood Janjua.

The Chief Justice Iftikhar Mohammad Chaudhry taking suo motu notice had directed the provincial police chief to file a report regarding whereabouts of her husband.

Masood Janjua had gone to Peshawar to on a Tablighi (religious) tour along with his friend Faisal Faraz in 2005, the application stated. Masood is a businessman but also attached with the Hamza Foundation engaged in the welfare work. This foundation also runs a private hospital in Sector I-10 Islamabad.

Masood visited Bannu Area four times in 2005, sometimes alone, sometimes with friends, to participate in the rehabilitation of refugees. During his visits he used to distribute plastic Igloo type tents, medicines and sacrificial animals on Eidul Azaha among refugees.

At the time of his mysterious disappearance, she recalled, some 700 to 800 bearded persons were also picked up by the law enforcing agencies on suspicion of their involvement in jihad related activities.

Masood might also be nabbed by one of those agencies most probably by ISI on account of some misunderstanding for his welfare activities in Bannu Area, she feared.

She said that her father-in-law also a retired army officer tried his level best to locate his son and even approached his son’s close friend who happens to work in one of the security agencies but he allegedly misled him.

Masood’s father had also personally delivered a petition to President Pervez Musharraf on Eidul Azha in 2006 during army officers get together in the Presidency. But he was informed later on telephone that Masood was alive but was not with the government agencies.

Her father-in-law also met Interior Minister Aftab Sherpao who also promised to help him but to no avail.

Now she had requested the chief justice to direct the intelligence to inform about her husband’s whereabouts.
