LAHORE: The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) on Thursday banned all-rounder Hamza Nazar from all forms of cricket for two years and fined him Rs1 million after finding that he had provided misleading information during a visa application process.

In a statement, the PCB said the disciplinary action followed an inquiry into information submitted by Hamza while applying for a visa through the board.

The inquiry found that the cricketer had failed to disclose complete and accurate information, provided misleading details and withheld material facts during the application process.

The PCB had constituted a three-member inquiry committee, which gave Hamza an opportunity to present his position before reviewing the available evidence and submitting its findings and recommendations.

Following a review of the committee’s report, the PCB imposed a two-year suspension from all domestic and international cricket and a fine of Rs1 million.

“The PCB takes matters involving misrepresentation, non-disclosure and the submission of misleading information extremely seriously,” the board said, adding that such conduct was inconsistent with the standards of honesty, professionalism and responsibility expected from individuals associated with Pakistan cricket.

It also said it would not allow any individual to tarnish the reputation of the board, Pakistan cricket or the millions of supporters who follow the game.

Hamza had emerged as one of the promising performers on the dome­stic circuit recently and was understood to have been in contention for Pakistan’s recent two-Test tour of the West Indies before the visa-related issue ruled him out of selection.
