KARACHI: A retired banker was shot dead while his son sustained critical bullet wounds after armed men attacked their residence in Azizabad early on Wednesday morning, police and hospital officials said.
They identified the deceased as Samiuddin Rehmani, 65, and his wounded son as Fasih Rehmani.
The police said four armed men entered their house in Block-8 near Al-Maaz Masjid and shot Mr Rehmani dead and wounded his 28-year-old son.
Police said the motive behind the attack remained unknown.
The body and the wounded man were shifted to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital.
Police surgeon Dr Summaiya Syed said the deceased had sustained a single penetrating gunshot wound to the chest. She added that his son had also suffered a single penetrating gunshot wound to the chest and was later shifted to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre for further treatment.
Central SSP Dr Mohammed Imran Khan visited the crime scene and said police were investigating the incident from all possible angles. He added that CCTV footage and other evidence were being collected. The attackers did not take away anything from the house.
Senior Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan leader Dr Farooq Sattar condemned what he described as a targeted attack and said deceased Rehmani was a former unit in-charge of the party.
However, quoting another son of the deceased, Azizabad SHO Zubair Awan said Rehmani had quit politics around 15 to 20 years ago.
