ISLAMABAD: Maintaining their winning streak, Pakistan defeated Kazakhstan on Monday in the last league match of the Central Asian Volleyball Association (CAVA) Men’s Volleyball Championship here at the Liaquat Gymnasium of the Pakistan Sports Complex.
Earlier in the day, Uzbekistan beat Nepal 3-0.
Pakistan, after downing Kazakhstan 3-0 (25-23, 25-19, 25-21), completed the league stage with five victories, without losing a match to reach top of the standings. The hosts had already qualified for the semi-finals with a victory over Uzbekistan on Sunday.
Pakistan once again displayed outstanding teamwork, solid defence, powerful serves and effective blocking. Kazakhstan fought hard, particularly in the opening set, but the hosts maintained control during crucial stages before winning the remaining sets.
Nepal challenged Uzbekistan strongly, particularly in the opening set, but Uzbekistan displayed consistency during the key moments to win the match.
The first set proved to be highly competitive, as Uzbekistan edged past Nepal 26-24 before bagging the next two sets 25-20 and 25-22.
Meanwhile, Bangladesh produced a stunning comeback to defeat Sri Lanka 3-2, which helped them reach the semi-finals.
After losing the first two sets, Bangladesh won three sets to claim the match 24-26, 24-26, 25-23, 25-21, 15-12.
