SAHIWAL: An 80‑year‑old woman died at the Sahiwal Teaching Hospital after battling for seven days with multiple head injuries allegedly caused by the negligence of Rescue 1122 staff while shifting her from home to the cardiology ward of Institute of Cardiology.

Syeda Nadra Bokhari, mother of Pakistani expat Syed Alamdar Shah, remained in coma and could not recover despite two neurosurgeries.

She had lost consciousness after falling from a stretcher mishandled by Rescue 1122 staff. She passed away last night due to multiple organ failures.

Family members said Nadra was initially being shifted for cardiac and breathing complications when the Rescue 1122 van arrived but the rescuers failed to fasten the stretcher safety belts around her. During the transfer inside the cardiology hospital, she fell and her head hit the marble floor.

Deputy Commissioner Samiullah Farooq had formed an inquiry committee, comprising the ADCG, DEO, and MS of the Sahiwal Teaching Hospital, but there is no news of the committee’s findings.

District Emergency Officer Zafar Iqbal had suspended Emergency Medical Technician Zafar Iqbal and driver Tariq Mahmood for negligence during the transfer of Nadra Bokhari to the hospital.
