Minister orders probe into ‘corruption’ in Charsadda Tehsil Municipal Administration

CHARSADDA: Minister for Local Government and Auqaf Meena Khan Afridi paid a surprise visit to Tehsil Municipal Administration here the other day following reports circulating on social media regarding alleged corruption in the TMA.

The minister inspected official records and directed authorities to initiate a comprehensive inquiry into financial and administrative matters. He warned that strict action would be taken against officials found involved in corruption or misuse of public funds.

Mr Afridi also met with serving and retired municipal employees who raised concerns over delayed salaries and pension payments. He assured them of timely payment of pensions and salaries.

Expressing concern over the financial management of the TMA, the minister questioned utilisation of the authority’s own revenue as well as provincial government grants. He directed the secretary local government to constitute an inquiry committee to investigate the matter.

He ordered a review of long-pending legal disputes involving approximately 300 shop cases under stay orders, stating that efforts would be made to resolve the issue in consultation with the law department.

The minister also instructed tehsil municipal officers across the province to ensure basic civic facilities in commercial buildings, including parking spaces and proper washrooms.
