CHITRAL: Flash floods triggered by torrential rains washed away roads and inundated crops in Bumburate and Rumbur valleys in Chitral.
The floods also damaged several houses. However, no loss of life was reported from the valleys as the dwellers of flood-hit houses had shifted to safer areas with the help of volunteers.
The roads leading to both the valleys remained blocked to traffic and pedestrian movement as big boulders blocked them.
The road leading to Bumburate was opened to vehicular traffic by Kalash Valleys Development Authority with the support of the National Highways Authority, while work on reopening the Rumbur Road was in progress.
Director General of Kalash Valleys Development Authority, Fidaul Karim, told Dawn that heavy machinery was mobilised to open the roads.
He said that the infrastructure hit by the floods was being restored, as many villages of both valleys had lost their drinking and irrigation water sources.
