Govt announces Eidul Azha holidays from May 26-28

The federal government on Wednesday announced a three-day public holiday from May 26-28 (Tuesday to Thursday) to mark Eidul Azha.

According to a notification issued by the Cabinet Division, shared by state-run APP on the social media platform X, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif declared May 26 to 28 as “public holidays on the occasion of Eidul Azha”.

Pakistan will observe Eidul Azha on May 27 (Wednesday), the Ruet-i-Hilal Committee announced after sighting the Zilhaj moon on Sunday.

The announcement was made after moon sighting testimonies were received from Karachi and other cities of Sindh, Mardan, Rawalpindi, Peshawar and some other areas.

Celebrated on the 10th of Zilhaj, Eidul Azha marks the culmination of Haj, one of the five pillars of Islam.

Saudi Arabia is also set to mark the first day of Eidul Azha on May 27, Saudi Gazette reported.

This is a very important occasion for the Muslim community, and Friday should also be declared a holiday. We should look at countries like China and others, where major occasions are celebrated with proper importance and consideration for the public. Declaring Friday as a working day serves little purpose, as most people will not attend work wholeheartedly. Many employees are likely to travel or remain absent and may only return by Monday. Such decisions should be made after considering ground realities, public sentiment, and the significance of the occasion for the community. I think the people making these decisions should at least take these factors into account before announcing the working schedule.

This is a very wrong decision. This decision is good for government workers, but it is extremely bad for private workers, especially laborers working in the private sector.

Under the ongoing “Bachat Kafayat” program, federal government institutions are already observing a Monday–Thursday work schedule. Since the Prime Minister of Pakistan, Shehbaz Sharif, has announced Eid ul Adha holidays from Tuesday to Thursday, this effectively results in six consecutive holidays (Tuesday to Sunday) for federal institutions. However, employees working under provincial governments are expected to return to offices on the third day of Eid, which creates difficulties for many people who work in cities far from their hometowns. Traveling back immediately after Eid is not practical for a large number of employees. The government should reconsider and revise the Eid holidays to ensure fairness and convenience for employees across all provinces as well.

Govt. Always should announce 4 holidays as youm ul Arfa and 3 holidays for eid ul adha... because some of the citizens perform Sunna Ibrahim at 3rd day of Eid . ul adha... please revised eid holidays. Thanks

Where are now austerity measures, it is totally unfair as people will now won't come to work on Monday as they have rush back from their home towns very next day of Eid! It should be revised and should be extended till Saturday 30th May as few organisations are open on Saturday

What an irony.... Three days of Eid should be holidays. A large number of people visits their hometown to celebrate Eid with respective families. Expecting them to fly back on second day of Eid to resume duties on third day, simply shows no empathy from government for it's own people...

Stupid decision. It’s effectively 2 days holidays on account of Eid. May 28th has already been a public holiday for last two years on account of Yom e Takhbeer. So effectively they have given only May 26 & 27 as off.
