OKARA: Rescue 1122 and police retrieved the bodies of a couple and their young daughter, along with their car, 20 hours after they drowned in the Balloki-Sulemanki (B-S) Link Canal.
According to police, on Sunday, Depalpur tehsil bar senior lawyer Yousaf Sipra, a resident of Basirpur, was going in his car, along with his wife, Sajida, 12-year-old son Monam and daughter, a Class X student, when it plunged into BS-Link Canal near Head Gul Sher.
Following the incident, locals and passersby rescued Monam, while other occupants of the car drowned.
The locals called Rescue 1122 teams, which launched a search operation in the canal using divers and boats, led by District Emergency Officer Zafar Iqbal.
Meanwhile, the administration officials and DPO Dr Assad Ejaz Mallhi also reached the spot.
The incident was noticed by Provincial Secretary, Emergency, Dr Naseer, who sent a special group of six divers to the spot.
The area MPA Iftikhar Chachar contacted the irrigation department and got water supply to the canal closed.
Finally, on Monday afternoon, the Rescue 1122 teams succeeded to trace the car, along with three bodies.
After completion ofthe necessary legal procedures, the bodies were handed over to the family of the deceased persons.
