NAROWAL: Four people were injured after the roof of a house collapsed during strong winds and heavy rain.

Rescue 1122 spokesperson said the control room received an emergency call from Ghaziwal Colony, where the wall of an under-construction house reportedly fell onto a neighbouring house due to the storm, causing the roof of a room to cave in.

He said rescue teams, with the help of local residents, pulled the trapped family members from the rubble. The injured were identified as Taj Bibi (65), Faraz (11), Shama (13) and Madiha (12). They were shifted to the Narowal District Headquarters Hospital.

The hospital sources said the elderly woman was in a critical condition due to severe injuries.

PERA: The teams of the Punjab Enforcement and Regulatory Authority (Pera) sealed 121 shops for violating the smart lockdown and arrested 25 shopkeepers for violating SOPs and putting up resistance during a fortnight.

Pera Force District Officer Faisal Nadeem told Dawn that the lockdown was being strictly enforced in the district.

He said Pera teams conducted 1,570 surprise visits across the district’s three tehsils – Narowal, Zafarwal and Shakargarh – during the past two weeks. During the inspections, challans were issued to 213 shopkeepers in Narowal, 52 in Zafarwal and 79 in Shakargarh for violating lockdown restrictions.

Mr Nadeem said fines amounting to Rs1.07 million were imposed on violators of the SOPs. He added that 121 shops were sealed for failing to comply with the Punjab government’s directives.

He further said 25 shopkeepers were arrested for allegedly interfering in and resisting government operations.
