KARACHI: Three Provincial Governments struck simultaneously at Communists on Thursday [May 10]. By the evening, 11 of them were arrested and detained in Karachi, Sind and the Punjab. The arrested persons include members of the Communist Party, Sind Hari Committee, Punjab Kisan Committee, Progressive Writers’ Association and a lecturer of the Dyal Singh College, Lahore.

A spokesman of the Pakistan Government told Dawn on Thursday that these arrests had nothing to do with the Rawalpindi Conspiracy Case. In Karachi three persons were arrested and detained in the morning. … In Lahore seven persons were arrested. … On Wednesday three Hari workers were arrested in Sind under the Sind Public Safety Act. The three arrested persons in Karachi will be detained for a period of six months… . — Dawn staff correspondent

[As reported by news agencies in Pusan,] Lee Shi Yong, Vice-President of South Korea, resigned today [May 10] in protest against corruption in the South Korean Government. The 82-year-old Vice-President took this action because of a big scale embezzlement case involving South Korean Government officials and military officers.
