ISTANBUL: Pakistan is learned to have suggested to the Preparatory Committee of the Islamic Foreign Ministers’ Conference enlargement of the agenda of some of the most important problems facing the Muslim world. Two most important problems in this context relate to the need of creating nuclear-free and peace zones in South Asia, the Middle East and Africa and in the economic field, formation of an institutional framework for implementation of conference decisions to augment economic cooperation among member countries.
Another important suggestion from Pakistan that was being discussed today [May 10] aims at getting the Islamic bloc representation in the non-aligned summit being held in August in Colombo. In this regard Pakistan’s suggestion is that the Secretary General should be authorised to approach the bureau of the non-aligned meeting in Algiers … to thrash out procedural matters. The Preparatory Committee composed of senior officials of 41 Muslim countries, including Palestine which is represented by the PLO, began its two-day deliberations here this morning, marked by a sense of urgency to deal with the problems facing the participating countries. — Correspondent
