CHARSADDA: Awami National Party (ANP) central president Aimal Wali Khan on Sunday visited residence of slain religious scholar Maulana Mohammad Idrees in Tangi, where he offered condolences to the deceased’s family and condemned the killing in strong terms.
Mr Aimal met the late cleric’s son Anees Ahmad and brother Maulana Fayyaz Ahmad and offered Fateha for the departed soul.
Talking to media on the occasion, the ANP chief described the killing of Maulana Mohammad Idrees as a tragedy for the entire Muslim Ummah and termed his assassination “highly condemnable”.
He alleged that PTM, PTI and TTP were “linked with each other” and claimed that if the establishment wanted, such groups could be eliminated.
The ANP president said his family had longstanding relations with the family of Maulana Idrees and vowed to stand by them during this difficult time.
Expressing concern over the security situation, he claimed that militants were openly moving in parts of Bajaur, Mohmand, Waziristan, Dera Ismail Khan, Tank, Lakki Marwat, Bannu and even Hayatabad. He questioned the role of the provincial government and asked whether it considered such elements facilitators or opponents of terrorism.
Mr Aimal further said that he and Attaur Rehman had already raised the issue of Maulana Idrees’ killing in the Senate and would continue to raise their voice in future as well.
Meanwhile, a delegation of Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) also visited the residence of slain religious scholar Maulana Mohammad Idrees and expressed condolences with the bereaved family.
The delegation included senior PTI leader and Secretary General of Tehreek Tahaffuz-i-Ayeen Pakistan Asad Qaiser, PTI chairman Gohar Ali Khan, PTI KP chapter president Junaid Akbar Khan, MNAs Malik Anwar Taj, Sahibzada Sibghatullah and Saleem Rehman, former provincial minister Qasim Ali Shah, along with other members of the national and provincial assemblies.
Upon arrival at the residence of the late cleric in Tangi, the delegation offered Fateha for the departed soul and expressed heartfelt sympathies with the family members.
