Policeman martyred in Tank gun attack

DERA ISMAIL KHAN/BAJAUR: A head constable of the Tank police embraced martyrdom after unidentified assailants opened fire on him on Link Road, officials said on Sunday

They said head constable Jan Alam was targeted by unidentified terrorists while performing his duty. He succumbed to his injuries on the spot.

The funeral prayers of the martyred policeman were offered with full official honours at the Police Lines Tank. Senior civil and military officials, police officers, jawans, and relatives of the martyr attended the ceremony.

Officers laid floral wreaths on the coffin of the martyr, while a smartly turned-out police contingent presented a salute in recognition of his sacrifice.

Special prayers were also offered for the elevation of the martyr’s ranks, peace and stability in the country, and national prosperity.

Speaking on the occasion, DPO Abdul Samad Khan said that the martyrs were the pride of the police force who sacrificed their lives for the protection of the people and maintenance of peace. He added that Tank police would always remember the unparalleled sacrifices of its martyrs.

Later, the mortal remains of the martyred constable were dispatched to his native village for burial.

Meanwhile, a wheat grinding outlet was damaged in a bomb explosion in the Raghagan Bazaar of the Khar tehsil of Bajaur district on Saturday night, police and residents said on Sunday.

The police said that the explosive device planted along the shop’s gate went off with a bang.

They added that the outlet was partially damaged in the explosion. It was closed at the time of the blast.

DSP Saidur Rehman said that a team from the Raghagan police post reached the scene after the explosion and launched an investigation into the incident.
