PESHAWAR: Industrial leaders, energy experts and government officials on Friday underscored the importance of competitive electricity markets and private sector participation during a workshop on the Competitive Trading Bilateral Contract Market (CTBCM) and wheeling auction process held at PEDO House.

The session brought together major industrial stakeholders, energy sector experts, government representatives and policymakers to deliberate on the evolving electricity market framework in Pakistan and the opportunities arising from the implementation of CTBCM and wheeling mechanisms.

The workshop was attended by prominent industrial leaders from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, representatives of associated power projects, officials from the energy sector and a large number of participants joining online from different regions of Pakistan. Senior officials from PEDO, ISMO, KP Board of Investment & Trade (KP-BOIT) and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Industrial Estates Development & Management Company (KP-EZDMC/KPIDMDC) actively participated in the session. MPA Ahmad Kundi also attended and appreciated the initiative aimed at promoting industrial growth and competitive energy markets in the province.

Speakers from ISMO provided in-depth insights into the upcoming power market reforms and explained the operational and commercial aspects of wheeling and bilateral electricity trading.

PEDO management highlighted the organisation’s commitment to facilitating industrial growth, private sector participation and efficient utilisation of provincial energy resources through modern market mechanisms.

The participants appreciated the initiative and termed the workshop highly informative and timely, particularly in the context of increasing industrial energy demand and ongoing power sector reforms in Pakistan.

The interactive discussions enabled stakeholders to better understand the regulatory environment, investment opportunities and practical implementation aspects of the CTBCM regime.

PEDO officials reiterated their commitment to supporting sustainable energy development, facilitating investor confidence and promoting competitive energy solutions for industries in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and across Pakistan.
