GUJRAT: The historical Nishan-i-Haider monument at Katchery Chowk is being dismantled to be rebuilt with the new design under a project sponsored by a Pakistani expat.

The project aims to restore and present the memorial in a more dignified and aesthetically enhanced manner.

This has been for the third time in the last 30 years that the city’s Nishan e Haider monument is being rebuilt as initially it was built at the centre of Katchery Chowk. However, around two decades ago, it was relocated to the corner of the parking lot of Zahoor Elahi Cricket Stadium. However, this time it’s location is not being changed but only the memorial would be rebuilt.

Three recipients of the country’s highest military award, Nishan-i-Haider, belong to Gujrat district.

It is learnt that a Dubai-based Pakistani businessman Prince Bilal Ahmed will rebuild the new monument with an estimated cost of Rs2.5m and the new design has been approved by the local administration.

Assistant Commissioner Abdul Qadeer Zarkoon stated that upon completion, the monument at Katchery Chowk will emerge as a prominent and symbolic landmark for the people of Gujrat.
