KARACHI: Police on Tuesday claimed to have arrested a bridegroom on charges of aerial firing during a wedding ceremony in Sector-3 of North Karachi.

A statement said the Khawaja Ajmer Nagri police carried out a raid at a marriage hall and arrested the bridegroom, Mohammad Shahbaz, along with his father, Mohammad Sarwar, and another suspect, Bashir Ahmed Soomro.

A 9mm pistol with an expired licence was also recovered.

A case has been registered against the suspects under Sections 337-H(i) (hurt by rash or negligent act), 440 (Mischief committed after preparation made causing death or hurt), 109 (abetment) and 34 (common intention) of the Pakistan Penal Code.

Youth shot dead in Old Golimar

A young man was shot dead in Old Golimar on Tuesday, police said.

The body was shifted to the Dr Ruth Pfau Civil Hospital Karachi for medico-legal formalities.

Pak Colony SHO Faisal Gul Khawaja said that Muzammil Abdul Razzak, 21, was killed by unidentified assailants near Bismillah Hotel. He suspected the involvement of gangsters led by Kashif Dada. The incident occurred in a street near the victim’s residence.
