BANNU: A man allegedly shot dead his ‘estranged’ wife in the Surani Mewakhel area in the limits of the Basiakhel police station here on Saturday, officials said.

They said that the slain woman was identified as Nasreen Bibi, who had been upset with her husband, Riaz.

It was learnt that the woman had moved to the house of her sister-in-law along with her children a week ago.

The man had gone there for reconciliation, but the situation took an ugly turn.

The man allegedly killed his wife and fled the scene.

The murder prompted angry family members and relatives of the woman to stage a protest by placing the body on a road.

The protesters demanded that the police bring the accused to justice or else they would block the Kohat Road.

Later, the police registered a case against the accused and launched an investigation.
