HYDERABAD, June 30: Hyderabad Development Auth-ority Directer-General Tahir Ah-med presented a Rs1.232 billion budget for the fiscal 2006-07, which was approved at a meeting precided over by District Nazim Kanwar Naveed Jamil.

The budget has three major components which include Rs332.541 million for ADP schemes, Rs347.023 million for self-finance schemes and Rs552.6 million for water supply and sewerage schemes.

Tahir Ahmed said that under the greater Hyderabad Sewerage Project phase-I, an amount of Rs265.095 million had been allocated to modernise the sewerage system by laying new sewers.

He said that an amount of Rs2.417 million had been allocated to pay arrears of water supply and sewerage project and Rs10 million each had been earmarked for city drainage project stage-IV and solid waste management project.

He said that an amount of Rs44.999 million had been earmarked for ongoing schemes which include lying of sever lines from the old powerhouse to treatment plant near the Zeal Pak Cement Factory and laying of another sewerage line from Phulleli to northern sewerage treatment plant.

He said that an amount of Rs332.511 million would be spent on ongoing schemes which were being implemented with the financial assistance of provincial and district governments.

He said that an amount of Rs243.056 million had been earmarked for housing projects under self-finance scheme, construction of civic centre, beautification programme and traffic engineering.

These schemes included the Kohisar Extension Housing Scheme, Qasimabad phase-I and II, zonal plan, SITE Pocket Housing Scheme, Gulistan-i-Sarmast Housing scheme, East Qasimabad Extension scheme, North Qasimabad phase-I and II, Hosh Nagar, Commercial and Civilian Housing scheme and Kohisar Housing Scheme.

The salient features of the budget are: the allocation of Rs0.080 million for the preservation of historical buildings and documents, Rs0.200 million for the demolition of dangerous and illegal buildings and Rs5.171 million for the construction of HDA offices at the civic centre.

An amount of Rs52.997 million has been earmarked for employees salary and Rs50.970 million under miscellaneous head.

The DG also gave details about the income and expenditure of the Water and Sanitation Agency.

He said that an amount of Rs552.600 million had been allocated under the water supply head.

He said that the expenditure would be met through recovery of bills estimated at Rs312.503 million, Rs77.537 million through sewerage charges, Rs42.560 million from government department consumers and Rs120 million as subsidy from the government.
