Met Office forecasts widespread rain, thunderstorms in parts of Balochistan, KP, Punjab on Monday

Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) on Sunday predicted widespread rain and thunderstorms in northeast Balochistan, lower Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and south Punjab on April 6 (Monday).

In a statement, the Met Office said, “Widespread rain-windstorm/thunderstorm (with isolated heavyfalls and hailstorm) is expected in northeast Balochistan, lower Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and south Punjab, while partly cloudy weather with rain windstorm/thunderstorm is likely at isolated places in Sindh, upper/central Punjab, south/central Balochistan, upper KP, Gilgit-Baltistan and Kashmir during evening/night of Monday.”

The Met Office also issued a warning, saying there were chances of flash floods in local nullahs or streams in northeast Balochistan, lower KP and hill torrents of Punjab’s Dera Ghazi Khan on April 6 due to heavy rainfall.

It said that landslides and flash flooding could also occur in local nullahs or streams of Kashmir, upper KP, Murree and Galiyat on April 7 and 8.

“Windstorm/ hailstorm and lightning may damage weak structures (electric poles, billboards, solar panels, etc) during the forecast period. Hailstorm/windstorm may damage standing crops in Punjab, Sindh and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa,” it cautioned.

The PMD also shared region-wise predictions for Monday.

Islamabad

According to the forecast, partly cloudy weather is expected in Islamabad and surrounding areas while rain-wind/thunderstorm is likely during the evening and night on Monday.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa

The forecast said that “widespread rain-windstorm/thunderstorm (snowfall over high mountains) is expected in Waziristan, Bannu, Dera Ismail Khan, Karak, Lakki Marwat, Tank, Kurram, Bajaur, Mohmand, Khyber, Orakzai, Kohat, Hangu, Mardan, Nowshera, Peshawar, Swabi, Charsadda, Chitral, Dir, Swat, Kalam, Shangla, Buner, Kohistan, Malakand, Battagram, Mansehra, Abbottabad, Balakot and Haripur”.

Isolated heavy rainfall and hailstorms are also likely at isolated places in lower districts, the forecast said.

Punjab

In Punjab, the PMD said, mainly partly cloudy weather is expected in most districts with “widespread rain, windstorm/thunderstorm (with isolated heavyfalls and hailstorm) likely in Dera Ghazi Khan, Rajanpur, Kot Addu, Bahawalpur, Bahawalnagar, Rahim Yar Khan, Khanpur, Bhakkar, Layyah, Multan and Khanewal”.

Rain-wind/thunderstorm was likely at isolated places in Murree, Galiyat, Rawalpindi, Attock, Chakwal, Jhelum, Sargodha, Mianwali, Toba Tek Singh, Sahiwal, Faisalabad, Khushab, Noorpur Thal and Pakpattan during the evening and night on Monday, it added.

Sindh

For Sindh, the PMD predicted cloudy weather in most districts of the province, with “rain-windstorm/thunderstorm (isolated heavyfalls and hailstorm)” likely at scattered places in Sukkur, Kashmore, Ghotki, Jamshoro, Shikarpur, Jacobabad, Larkana and Qambar Shahdadkot.

Isolated rain/thunderstorm may occur in Dadu, Naushero Feroze, Shaheed Benazirabad, Sanghar, Mirpurkhas, Mitiari, Hyderabad, Tando Muhammad Khan, Tando Allahyar, Thatta, Badin and Karachi during Monday, the forecast said.

Balochistan

“Widespread rain-wind/ thunderstorm (isolated heavyfalls and hailstorm) is likely in Quetta, Ziarat, Chaman, Pishin, Qila Abdullah, Qila Saifullah, Noshki, Harnai, Zhob, Kalat, Khuzdar, Barkhan, Mastung, Sibi, Kohlu, Naseerabad and Loralai, while light to moderate rain wind/thunderstorm is also likely at isolated places in Panjgur, Turbat, Kech, Awaran, Makran Coast (Gwadar, Pasni, Ormara) and Lasbela and surroundings,” the PMD statement said.

Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan

Partly cloudy weather with rain-wind/thunderstorm is expected in Kashmir and GB during the evening and night on Monday, the Met Office said.
