US federal agents have arrested the niece and grand-niece of late Iranian military commander Qassem Soleimani, after Secretary of State Marco Rubio revoked their lawful permanent resident status, Reuters reports citing the US State Department.

“Hamideh Soleimani Afshar and her daughter are now in the custody of US Immigration and Customs Enforcement,” the State Department has said in a statement after Rubio revoked their green cards.

Soleimani was assassinated in a US strike on Baghdad’s international airport in January 2020, during US President Donald Trump’s first term in office.
