Two loud explosions have been heard in eastern Tehran, AFP journalists report, in an area of the Iranian capital frequently struck by the United States and Israel.

One journalist has heard two blasts at about 6:00 pm local time (1430 GMT) and has seen two large clouds of black smoke rising from the sky in the city’s east, while a third, smaller plume could be seen on the horizon.

It is not immediately clear what was targeted. The Shargh daily had said fighter jets had been circling the area.
