Hazro to have 25 water filtration plants: MPA

TAXILA: As many as 35 water filtration plants will be installed in different areas of tehsil Hazroto ensure provision of hygienically clean drinking water to the people this fiscal year.

This was revealed by a Member of the Punjab Chief Minister’s Monitoring Committee and former provincial minister Jahangir Khanzada while talking to newsmen at his hometown Shadi Khan near Hazro.

PML Hazro chapter President Malik Ansar Ahmed and other office-bearers were also present on this occasion.

The installation of these filtration plants is the part of Rs2.22 billion project to upgrade 17 villages in Rawalpindi Division as model villages under the Annual Development Programme.

Under the project, the government will construct and pave roads, streets, drains, and sewerage systems in the selected villages.

Officials will launch new drinking water supply schemes and install water filtration plants to provide clean water. From Attock district, authorities have selected Pind Fateh, Mithal, Kot Fateh Khan, Garshin, and Jang Bhattar.

He said that the plants which would be established in union council Ghourghushti, Mominpura, Mullah Kallan, Saleem Khan, Yasin, Shadi Khan, Shamsabad, Nartoppa, Darya Sharif, Qablabandani, GBC Hattain, Garhi and other areas will help to eradicate waterborne diseases, particularly hepatitis which has seen an alarming spread in the area.

He said water filtration plants will also be established in other parts of the district, including Attock city, Hassanabdal and Fatehjang.

He said that for female students of Government Girls College Hazro two pink buses have been approved to facilitate female students who face transportation challenges from remote areas.

The first bus will start operations from April 1, while the second will become functional in June, significantly easing commuting issues for students.

It was further stated that construction work on Colonel Shuja Khanzada Degree College will commence this fiscal year.

While sharing details about development on the health front, he said that a grant of Rs56 million has been approved for the renovation and upgradation of Basic Health Units in Jalalia, Musa and Hameed.

He said that over the past two years, a substantial amount of Rs170 million has been allocated and spent on the health sector across the entire tehsil, reflecting the government’s focus on improving medical facilities at the grassroots level. Responding to a question, he said the government has realised the severity of the economic and financial problems of the people, especially the poor and working class, and was taking steps to overcome the issues.
