KOHAT, June 19: The administration of the Frontier Region of Kohat has finally selected Jawaki area for setting up an industrial zone. The decision two set up the estate was taken by the Federally Administered Tribal Areas (Fata) secretariat three years ago to create business opportunities for people engaged in illegal manufacturing of arms.

The deputy administrator of the frontier region of Kohat, Riaz Khattak, while talking to Dawn said the DCO had called a meeting of the industries department of Fata on Thursday to discuss the matter and get approval of the site.

Funds had been allocated for the project by the federal government but selection and acquisition of land had become a big problem in the area.

Earlier, the authorities had decided to establish the zone near the Darra Adamkhel bazaar but had to drop the idea owing to the non-availability of 400 kanal (50 acres) land with a single tribe. It was also a problem to negotiate with many tribes over land price.

The purpose of land acquisition in Darra Adamkhel was to regulate the arms business and establish showrooms in the bazaar for foreign and local buyers.
