31 shopkeepers held for profiteering

KARACHI: As many as 31 shopkeepers were arrested and 267 others fined for selling essential commodities on exorbitant charges in the city.

A statement issued from the office of Karachi commissioner stated that during ongoing campaign against price hike 11 shops were also sealed for overpricing.

It said assistant commissioners and mukhtiarkars, who have been granted special magisterial powers, checked items at 1,330 locations in total.

On 10th Ramazan, the officials provided relief to the citizens, auctioned the items of shopkeepers who were found guilty of overpricing at 309 locations and sold them at official rates, it added.

Commissioner Hasan Naqvi directed deputy commissioners to take strict action against profiteering, ensuring citizens get relief during Ramazan.
