THATTA: An impressive display of innovative ideas and amazing imaginations turned a competition among young students at the Govt Girls High School, Thatta campus, into a vibrant show the other day.

As many as 135 students, along with 45 teachers from 15 schools located in all four talukas of Thatta district, witnessed the show at the contest organised by STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics).

The young schoolchildren showcased their innovative ideas to tell viewers and listeners how their imagination can move beyond textbooks to address real-life community challenges.

Organised by the STEAM’s district focal person Zeeshan Asghar Palijo and District Education Officer Huzoor Bux Khaskheli, the competition reflected a growing culture of research-based and inquiry-driven learning at public schools.

The students presented projects under four thematic challenges — Reimagine Your Neighbourhood (3D Sculpture), Design a Playscape, Reimagine Your Ride (Safe and Comfortable Transport) and Reim­agine Your Classroom — and each model narrated a story of climate change, water scarcity, urban safety, child-friendly spaces and modern classrooms, blending creativity with critical thinking. Visitors were struck not only by the craftsmanship of the exhibits but by the confidence with which students explained their research methods, design process and proposed solutions.

Government officials, sociopolitical representatives, researchers, educationists, parents and media personnel engaged directly with the participants which made the event a dynamic dialogue between young innovators and the wider community.

Adding energy to the exhibition, the students conducted live science fusion experiments that drew great applause from the audience, reflecting the potential of young future scientists.

A stall displaying China-based safety electric bikes highlighted zero-carbon transport solutions while the Rescue-1122 Disaster Risk Management team conducted awareness sessions on emergency preparedness and safety equipment linking innovation with community resilience.

Certificates and cash prizes were awarded to the winning teams. The event concluded on a cultural note with the traditional song and dance on ‘Ho Jamalo’ as students and teachers celebrated their creativity, collaboration and achievement.

The ‘STEAM contest stands as a compelling testament to how visionary leadership and dedicated educators can empower young learners to think critically, innovate boldly and reimagine the future of their communities.
