As per local sources, both victims went missing on Feb 2 and police lodged two separate kidnapping cases on Wednesday.

Reports said that Zain Ali (24) of Meh Kalan and his friend Shahzaib Saleem of Khohaar left their houses on Feb 2. Their dead bodies were found in the Pabbi area three days after their disappearance. Both victims were shot dead.

A team of senior police officials reached the spot and the bodies were shifted by Rescue 1122 to the THQ Hospital for autopsy, whereas a team of Punjab Forensic Science Agency (PFSA) also reached the spot and collected evidence from the crime scene.

It is learnt that the kidnapping case of Shahzaib Saleem was lodged with the Sara-i-Alamgir Sadar Police against suspects Ali Haider of Bharot, Adnan Ashiq of Simbli and three of their unidentified accomplices on the complaint of victim’s father Muhammad Saleem. Whereas, the kidnapping case of Zain Ali was lodged with the Sara-i-Alamgir City Police against unidentified suspects on the complaint of his brother Husnain Ali.

Gujrat Police Spokesperson Sub-Inspector Waqas Ur Rehman said that the DPO had constituted police teams to trace and arrest the suspects involved in the incident and further investigation was underway.

He said that deceased Shahzaib had been the accused in at least seven cases of attempted murder, illegal weapons and other such charges.

Local sources had linked the double murder with an honour-related issue, however, the spokesperson said that the motive behind the double murder was yet to be ascertained.
