KARACHI: Four robbers looted $100,000 and 200 tola gold from a citizen who brought the valuables from his bank locker to his home in Bahadurabad on Tuesday, police said on Wednesday.

Syed Maaz Ali Qadri told the police that he, along with his driver, had collected 200 tola gold and $100,000 from his locker in a private bank on main Sharea Faisal. When he reached his residence in Faran Society, four robbers riding two motorcycles forcibly entered the house and looted them at gunpoint.

Bahadurabad SHO Mohammed Nawaz told Dawn that the robbers snatched gold ornaments and $100,000 and rode away. He said the motorcycle, carrying two of the robbers, hit a road bump and they fell.

As security guards and area residents rushed to the spot, the suspects managed to escape, abandoning the looted gold, which was later recovered by police.

A case was registered on the complaint of Mr Qadri under Sections 397 (robbery) and 34 (common intention) of the Pakistan Penal Code.
