QUETTA: Four members of a family, including a couple and their two children, died of suffocation due to a gas leakage in their flat at the new Labour Colony in the Nawan Killi area on Friday.

Police said the family belonged to Shahid Sadiq, the master of a church, who lived in a flat on Abdul Khaliq Road in Nawan Killi, on the outskirts of Quetta city.

Due to severe cold weather, Shahid Sadiq, his wife, and their two children went to sleep with gas heater on.

The heater stopped working during the night for unknown reasons, causing a gas leakage that accumulated in the room.

“All the four members of the family suffocated due to inhaling the leaked gas, which caused their death,” a senior official said.

Police rushed to the scene after receiving information and recovered the bodies, which were shifted to Civil Hospital. Doctors confirmed that the cause of death was gas suffocation and estimated the bodies to be at least 19 hours old.

The deceased were identified as Shahid Sadiq, his wife Shabana Shahid, and their children, 10-year-old Bin Yameen and 15-year-old Bazil Shahid.
